Tzimes
Serves 12
Today Ema makes the Tzimas with frozen baby carrots, but when we were growing up, she peeled, and sliced "regular" carrots befor coking them. The rest was made the same.
Safta Yafa always said, (and I mean every time Tzimas was served), "Tzimas ochlim ba'sof", and she would pass them on.
Ingredients:
1 bag | frozen baby carrots (800 grams) |
1/2 cup | honey |
1/2 cup | water |
some | prunes (optional) |
1/3 tsp. | cinnamon |
Preparation:
-
Place in small pot prunes, cover with water and cook till they puff up (or leave without cooking several hours)
-
In larger pot: cook carrots in salted water.
-
Add honey and cinnamon.
-
Cook about 1/2 hour, stirring every once in a while. Add water if needed. (If there is too much water: boil off water, or mix 1 Tbs. flour or cornflour with 1/4 cup cold water and mix in to carrots to thicken).
-
Place in serving dish, and position prunes on top.
