I know there is not one kind of Birthday Cake recipe, but I remember that one of them is with nuts inside and is a big surprise to first timers when they bite into the beautifully decorated cake and expect nothing special from the taste...
This great cake is from the
cookbook – עוגות לכל עת – נירה שויאר page 52. We
have added tricks to make it easier & better
–I’m giving the improved version.

more.
Ingredients:
cake: | |
¾ cup | pecans or walnuts |
100 grams | bitter chocolate |
½ cup | flour |
1 tsp | baking powder |
1 tsp | instant coffee powder |
1 cup | shredded coconut |
½ cup | sugar |
6 | egg yolks |
3 tbs | sweet wine |
Pinch of | salt |
6 | egg whites |
½ cup | sugar |
dressing for cake: | |
1 tsp | instant coffee |
½ cup | boiling water |
2 tbs | brandy (optional) |
icing: | |
1 cup | whipping cream or Parve Rich’s |
2 tbs | powdered sugar |
1 tsp | instant coffee |
Preparation:
- Put nuts to coffee in food processor & wiz until nuts are chopped.
- Add coconut to salt & wiz until mixed.
- Whip egg whites & add sugar. Whip until stiff.
- Fold egg whites into rest of mixture.
- Pour batter into greased no 26 pan.
- Bake at medium heat 50-60 min.
- Mix dressing while cake is in the oven.
- Pour on cake when you take it out of the oven (cake should be hot).
- Cool cake & remove from pan.
- Whip together icing.
- Spread on cake.
